Medical Therapy
Medical therapy is intended to decrease the volume of the endolymph.9,10
Therapy includes lifestyle changes in combination with drugs such as
diuretics, steroids, anti-depressants, antihistamines,
anti-vertiginous and vasoactive drugs. The "cost" of using
these drugs is not free as they often cause side effects or impact
other medications that the patient may be using for unrelated reasons.
Intravenous Innovar® has had limited success in a small number of
cases in the early, fluctuant stage of the disorder.11
However, it has been postulated that therapeutic success in Ménière's
disease may reflect more the natural history of the disorder than the
efficacy of the pharmacologic agent.3
